In the afternoon of 15th and 16th December 2021, the 7th ORCA User Meeting will take place as an online event. This time, the meeting will focus on real-life applications and we will have plenty of space for you to present your own calculations and how you use ORCA to solve challenging problems. Keynote lectures will contain examples of the latest new ORCA features including several applications of ORCA in different fields. Participation is free of charge and if you want to present your own work (15 minute time slots) please send a one-page abstract to until November 15th. The National Ernst Haage Award for Chemistry 2021 goes to Dr. Max Martin Hansmann. Max Hansmann is a junior professor at the Faculty of Chemistry and Chemical Biology (Organic Chemistry) at Technische Universität Dortmund and has distinguished himself through excellent independent work and outstanding publications. The Ernst Haage Prize for Doctoral Students is awarded to Dr. Rebecca Gómez Castillo (Max Planck Institute for Chemical Energy Conversion).The Ernst Haage Foundation Trainee Award will be presented to Nina Bäumer (MPI CEC) and Paul Grote (Max-Planck-Institut für Kohlenforschung) for outstanding achievements.The award ceremony will take place on November 5, 2021, as a hybrid event at the Max-Planck-Institut für Kohlenforschung in Mülheim an der Ruhr, to which the award winners from 2020 are also invited.The event will be streamed online and registration is necessary. Chemistry Nobel Prize Winner Ben List is invited to "Kölner Treff" presented by Susan Link and Micky Beisenherz. The talk will also be broadcasted on October 15 and 17 on WDR Fernsehen. The workshop is intended for graduate students, PhD students and young scientists active in solid-state research (chemistry, physics), geosciences, crystallography and materials science. During the workshop, the following topics will be addressed: • Method development at large research facilities • New techniques • Career perspective for young graduates in academia, industry, public service and at large research facilities. ORCA 5.0 Release

For the release of our popular ORCA quantum chemistry package version 5.0 there will be a webinar with an introduction by F. Neese, presentations by the authors and plenty of room for discussions and questions. The webinar will be hosted in ZOOM and will take place on the 1st and 2nd of July with an introductory talk in the evening of the 1st and scientific talks on the 2nd of July. [more]

ExpReS 2021 aims to connect students, scientists, and industries to discuss research findings and current advance about the importance of spectroscopy for the understanding of structure/reactivity relationships and insights into catalytic mechanisms. The symposium will feature examples from the main branches of catalysis: Heterogeneous Catalysis, Homogeneous Catalysis, Bio-catalysis, and their industrial applications. [more]
Four female and six male researchers will receive the Heinz Maier-Leibnitz Prize this year, the top award for early career investigators in Germany. This was the result of a decision made by a selection committee appointed by the DFG and the Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF).
