Discovery of Artificial Pentlandite Catalyst for Hydrogen Production

July 28, 2016

Researchers from Max-Planck-Institut für Kohlenforschung (Harun Tüysüz) , Ruhr University Bochum and Technical University of Bratislava discovered an effective pentlandite (Fe4.5Ni4.5S8 ) catalyst for hydrogen evolution under acidic conditions. The developed catalyst is effective as platinum and has a potential to replace this noble metal for electrochemical hydrogen production.

The study was recently published in Nature Communications, 2016, DOI: 10.1038/NCOMMS12269.
