70 Max Planck researchers are on the "Global Highly Cited Researchers" list compiled annually by Clarivate Analytics

Every November, the Highly Cited Researchers™ list from Clarivate Analytics is eagerly awaited. The U.S. company compiles its analysis in the field of scientific and academic research based on data and analyses by bibliometrics experts and data scientists from the Institute for Scientific Information™ at Clarivate. The benchmark of the evaluation is how often a publication is cited by other researchers in their publications. It is thus considered an important indication of the scientific influence of a publication and its authors in their field. The "Who's Who" of influential researchers includes around 6,600 researchers from around the world (corresponding to less than 0.1% of the registered researchers) each year and looks at the publication of highly cited articles over the past ten years.

Frank Neese, director of the Department of Molecular Theory and Spectroscopy at the MPI für Kohlenforschung, is again among the most cited researchers this year. Since the first evaluation in 2015, Neese has been honored every year in the field of chemistry. The world's largest trusted and publisher-neutral citation index lists only 13 researchers in the chemistry category in 2021. Among them is also Stefan Grimme, chair of theoretical chemistry at the University of Bonn and Max Planck Fellow at the Max-Planck-Institut für Kohlenforschung. In total, the Max Planck Society can be pleased about 70 researchers from its ranks who have been honored as "Highly Cited Researchers 2021" across all fields of knowledge.
