MPI für Kohlenforschung receives apprentice prize

The Max Planck Society rewards up to three of its institutes each year with an apprentice award for training facilities, for example, if they implement innovative training concepts, offer cooperation with external partners or impart additional qualifications. This year, the Max-Planck-Institut für Kohlenforschung can look forward to an apprentice award as a training facility.

Tobias Ritter now presented the certificate to training manager Petra Wedemann, who was very pleased with the recognition of her achievements. In her more than 15 years as head of training for apprentices, Petra Wedemann has already trained around 250 chemistry and physics laboratory assistants as well as apprentices in other occupations.

Trainee price

Every year in September, she welcomes around 16 new apprentices to the Mülheim campus, who she regularly teaches in the company and accompanies during their practical work in the teaching laboratory. Thanks to its excellent equipment, the MPI also trains external chemical laboratory assistants from MAN TURBO, the Mülheim IWW or the Duisburg INEOS. On September 1st, 14 new laboratory assistant trainees started their apprenticeships at the MPI in Mülheim, 8 of them at the MPI für Kohlenforschung. The Max Planck Society's apprentice prize is endowed with 7500 euros and must be earmarked for the training.
