Analytical Instrumentation
Mass spectrometry is a very innovative analytical method, and can provide analytical information about a wide range of different compounds. Our major research focus is on the investigation of complex reactions, in which not only one or two compounds are reacting with each other, but a multitude of chemical compounds react via different processes. Reactions that have 10, 20 or even more than 100 different chemical compounds cannot be easily analyzed. For the investigation of such complex reactions, it is necessary to develop customized methods. Therefore, we develop or optimize state-of-the art analytical instrumentation and combine those tools with mass spectrometry to gain new information about complex problems. Examples are the connection of different kind of chemical reactors with MS, hyphenated methods to mass spectrometry or different ion sources, like atmospheric pressure laser ionization (APLI).
