Inspiring: Josep Cornellà chosen as one of 50 outstanding scientists
Spanish chemist is honored for his contributions in enabling the usage of bismuth
The scientific Publishing House Cell Press is celebrating its 50th anniversary. To mark the occasion, the editors have named 50 particularly inspiring scientists from a range of disciplines. Among them is Josep Cornellà, group leader at the MPI für Kohlenforschung.
Cell Press has selected our Max Planck Research Group Leader, Josep Cornellà as one of “50 Cell Press Scientists that Inspire”. This campaign is part of the Publishing Company’s celebrations for their 50th anniversary. Cornellà was chosen for his contributions in enabling the usage of Bismuth in synthesis.
“What excites me most in my field right now is the remarkable resurgence of bismuth”, says Josep Cornellà, who feels very honored of being part of this selection of scientists. The chemist from Spain states that Bismuth is “has become a central player in catalysis, enabling entirely new modes of chemical activation”. For years the Cornellà-group has worked on many fascinating projects that focus on this heavy main group element.
Editors at each journal of Cell Press across all the sciences have nominated scientists whose research and careers drive innovation, cross boundaries, and inspire the leaders of the future. Speaking of the future, Josep Cornellà says that he is “eager to see how Bismuth’s versatility will inspire breakthroughs in catalysis, magnetism, photophysics, energy and information storage, biomedical applications, and beyond”.
