Nobel Prize in Chemistry awarded to Benjamin List

The Nobel Prize Committee announced today that Prof. Dr. Benjamin List will receive the Nobel Prize in Chemistry this year. The MPI für Kohlenforschung congratulates him wholeheartedly on this extraordinary award. All colleagues are proud that after Karl Ziegler a second "coal scientist" has joined the ranks of Nobel laureates. With the so-called "organocatalysis", Ben List has discovered a new way of accelerating chemical reactions and thus making them more energy and resource efficient. Organocatalysis is now used in numerous laboratories around the world in academic and industrial research and is used for a wide range of syntheses.
