Walter Thiel is awarded the Liebig Medal

The Liebig Medal was established on 12th May 1903 by the Society of German Scientists (Verein Deutscher Chemiker) to celebrate the 100th birthday of Justus von Liebig. Since 1950 the prize - a silver medal, a certificate and a honorarium - has been awarded by the society to outstanding German scientists for their contribution to the field of chemistry.
This year the Liebig Medal will be awarded to Walter Thiel at the 127th Assembly of the Society of Germany Natural Scientists and Physicians (GDNÄ) in Göttingen for his scientific achievements in the field of theoretical and quantum chemistry, especially for the development of semi-empirical methods and combined quantum mechanical / molecular mechanical methods.
