Planck Society

A badge of honor with a platinum-plated Minerva - this award has now been given to Günther Wilke, former director of the Max Planck Institut für Kohlenforschung. He received the award for 50 years of membership in the MPG during the annual meeting of the Max Planck Society.

New organic compounds

Günther Wilke was Director of the institute from 1963 to 1993, succeeding Karl Ziegler. His work in the field of catalysis allowed the synthesis of new organic compounds that are used in the polymer sector - such as in nylon, detergents and fuels.

Vice President of the Max Planck Society

He was Vice President of the Max Planck Society from 1978 to 1990, President of the German Chemical Society and Chairman of the Society of German Natural Scientists and Physicians.
