Celebrating the 90th birthday of Professor Wilke

The 90th birthday of Professor Dr. Günther Wilke was cause for an academic celebration at the Max-Planck-Institut für Kohlenforschung. The emeritus professor for Organic Chemistry was director of the institute in the years 1969 to 1993. Günther Wilke received numerous academic awards, including the honorary doctorate of seven universities. He is regarded as pioneer in Organometallic Chemistry and Homogeneous Catalysis, with focus on nickel chemistry. His scientific work has found worldwide recognition.
Professor Dr. Gerhard Erker from the University of Münster gave the lecture “Frustrated Lewis pairs: Organometallic chemistry without metals?” on February 26, 2015 in the grand lecture hall of the Max-Planck-Institut für Kohlenforschung. Professor Erker does research in the field of Organometallic Chemistry and Catalysis.
