This award is given to scientists or research teams who have made a significant scientific contribution to tackling the great challenges facing society today. The prize is endowed with 50.000 Euro.

In the jury’s opinion Ferdi Schüth has made clear the importance and challenges of energy storage for our energy supply to politicians and the public. Ferdi Schüth shows a high level of responsibility – in both science and society, states Jörg Häcker, president of the Leopoldina.
