"Best example for a Green Chemistry“: Benjamin List receives Otto Bayer Award

Prof. Dr. Benjamin List has been awarded with the Otto Bayer Award 2012. The 44 years old scientist got the award endowed with 75.000 Euro of the “Bayer Science & Education Foundation” for his achievements in the field of organocatalysis.

Dr. Marjin Dekkers, Bayer AG chairman, underlined that Prof. Lists work is important for a prospective chemistry. Catalysts make chemical processes more efficient. And Lists achievements show that chemistry is on its way to sustainability. In his speech Dekkers also asked society to show more acceptance for scientific achievements.

Prof. Dr. Ernst-Ludwig Winnacker, secretary general of the Human Frontier Science Program Organization, said that advantages of organocatalysts are obvious: “They are stable, without metal and therefore non-toxic. They are easily regained – a best example for a Green Chemistry.”

The award is granted to scientists who contribute to chemistry and biochemistry in a very innovative way.
