An American Award: Ben List is honored by the American Chemical Society

Prof. Ben List, Managing Director at the Max Planck Institute for Coal Research in Mülheim, receives a special award for chemists: the Arthur C. Cope Scholar Award of the American Chemical Society (ACS). This prize is awarded each year to outstanding scientists for their research. It will be handed over in August 2014.

The award comes with a certificate and is endowed with $ 5,000 and a research grant of $ 40,000. List can use this money directly for his scientific projects.

Arthur C. Cope was an American chemist who lived from 1909 to 1966. He was particularly successful in organic chemistry. Among other things, he was known for his work in connection with malaria control or the treatment of poisoning. Cope rearrangement, an important reaction in the field of organic chemistry, is named after him. In Cope's memory the American Chemical Society gives  the Arthur C. Cope Scholar Award to outstanding chemists.
