Research and Work
The focus of the research at the MPI für Kohlenforschung is on cutting edge topics in the field of chemical transformations. Cooperation of specialists in many areas is mandatory for maintaining a top level in our fundamental research, the ultimate goal of all research efforts at institute. Excellent research facilities and equipment are a prerequisite, but key factor for scientific success is the creativity of researchers, engineers, and technicians. Scientists at the institute can develop their own research fields and thus contribute to the innovative atmosphere in an international environment. Recruitment of distinguished scientists to international research teams allow for a highly focused research, the results of which build up the basis for the international reputation of the MPI für Kohlenforschung. The scientists are supported by departments that are specialized on specific characterization methods and by highly skilled workshops. All these factors provide excellent working conditions for both, researchers and technical staff.
Lectures and visits of internationally renowned scientists, e.g., in the scope of the annual Ziegler Lectureships or the recurring seminar program, provide a platform for scientific exchange for all researchers at the institute.
The institute has an International Max Planck Research School (IMPRS):
