Guest Fellowship Program

The Max-Planck-Institut für Kohlenforschung offers a limited number of guest fellowships to foreign postdocs and doctoral students on a competitive basis.

The fellowships conform to the framework defined by the Max Planck Society for doctoral and postdoctoral grants, with regard to payment, benefits, and research opportunities. (The Max Planck Society provides information here http://www.mpg.de/en/postdocs and here https://www.mpg.de/doctoral_students). Fellowships for postdoctoral researchers are limited for 2 years and fellowships for doctoral students are meant for 6 months.

An application can be submitted at any time. It needs to include a cover letter, Curriculum Vitae and a brief description of the research work to date. The HR department monitors the resources available for the guest program. For the examination of the funds, an application for admission for young scientists, a curriculum vitae and written approval of the respective group leader of the Max-Planck-Institut für Kohlenforschung is required, which thereby expresses his or her agreement to the acceptance of the application as a scholarship holder in the guest programme. Further material such as publications or relevant certificates (copies) can also be submitted. Please send your application electronically, preferably in compressed form (zip/rar-file) with all necessary information in PDF-format to the following central address: fellowships@kofo.mpg.de. Alternatively, you can send it to the research group leader whom you would join, with the request to forward it within the Institute.

The Institute appoints a Selection Committee chaired by the Managing Director. This Committee selects the successful applicants. Decisions will normally be made in regular meetings every three months (February, May, August, and November), and under special circumstances also in between. Applicants will be notified by electronic mail immediately thereafter about the outcome of their application.
