Honor for Frank Neese

Theorist receives invitation to Egon Wiberg Lecture
 

The Munich Chemical Society has honored Prof. Dr. Frank Neese, Director of the Department of Molecular Theory and Spectroscopy at the Max-Planck-Institut für Kohlenforschung, for his outstanding scientific achievements. Neese has been invited to give next year’s Egon-Wiberg-Lecture – an honor reserved only for outstanding personalities in inorganic chemistry. With this extraordinary award the chemists of Munich want to commemorate the first director of the Institute of Inorganic Chemistry at the Ludwig-Maximilians-University in Munich (LMU), Prof. Dr. Egon Wiberg. Many scientists know Wiberg as the long-term co-editor of a standard textbook of inorganic chemistry (the "Holleman-Wiberg"), which is considered the "bible of chemistry" and is well known to all chemistry students. "I am very happy about the award and I will give my lecture next summer at the Department of Chemistry at LMU," says Neese and explains: "We are very grateful that after two years of the pandemic it is possible again to practice scientific exchange in person. Face-to-face meetings are inspiring and very valuable for our work."
