Application for seven doctoral positions open until February 15

The Max-Planck-Institut für Kohlenforschung (MPI KOFO) is cooperation partner of the new International Max Planck Research School on Sustainable Metallurgy (IMPRS SusMet), which started in January 2022. The doctoral program, supported by the Max Planck Society, focuses on research into carbon-free, sustainable metallurgy and will be based at the Max-Planck-Institut für Eisenforschung in Düsseldorf. Further partner institutions are the Ruhr Universität Bochum and the Universität Duisburg-Essen.

"The International Max Planck Research School on Sustainable Metallurgy will offer excellent research conditions for a total of 38 PhDs," explains Professor Ferdi Schüth, who coordinates the program at the MPI KOFO together with PD Dr. Claudia Weidenthaler. "Applications for the first seven available PhD positions can be submitted. The program aims at outstanding talents from chemistry, physics, engineering and materials science who will conduct interdisciplinary research around sustainability in metal production. Our new school offers a unique combination of intensive interdisciplinary teaching, soft skills training and research activity in an outstanding environment." The future junior scientists will work – depending on their research focus - either at the MPI für Eisenforschung or at one of the partner institutions. Upon successful completion, the doctoral degree will be awarded by one of the partner universities.
