Pantazis gives special Lecture in the US
Great honor for a Group Leader of our Institute
Dimitrios Pantazis received the Paul Harteck Lectureship from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute for his outstanding contributions to physical chemistry, specifically in understanding photosynthesis's molecular mechanisms.
The Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) in Troy, New York, regularly awards the „Paul Harteck Lectureship“ to scientists who have made internationally exceptional contributions to the advancement of Physical Chemistry.
Recently, this honor was bestowed upon Dimitrios Pantazis, group leader at the Max Planck Institut für Kohlenforschung. The US institution recognized the contributions of the Pantazis group to understanding the molecular mechanisms of photosynthesis. Thus the title of his award lecture, "Molecular Principles of Solar Energy Conversion in Photosynthesis".
The Lectureship is named after Paul Harteck, a famous physical chemist from Austria who made important contributions to the discovery of isotopes, spin isomers, and nuclear chemistry. He worked at the RPI from 1951 until his retirement.
The Paul Harteck Lectureship at the Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute was installed after Hartecks‘ retirement in 1982. There have been only 19 awardees since then, Pantazis the latest of them – and the very first from a German institution.
