October 5 - 8, 2014
Under the auspices of the MPG and the DGK
Deadline For Registration: March 31,2014
In case you do not receive a confirmation mail for your registration within one week, please contact Dr. Claudia Weidenthaler
The summer school is intended for graduate students, PhD students, and young scientists active in solid state research (chemistry, physics), geo-sciences, crystallography, and materials science.
Aim of the school is to give an overview on the capabilities of powder diffraction methods on polycrystalline matter, how to characterize atomic structures and microstructures. The school will provide a comprehensive introduction to diffraction theory, the use of different experimental setups, and modern methods for the evaluation of diffraction data.
For attending the workshop it is advantageous to have a basic knowledge on crystallographic methods.
The participants are encouraged to present their work as short lectures or posters during evening sessions. Individual problems will be discussed.
During the workshop the following topics are addressed:
Real structure (defects, texture, disordered structures, size/strain, PDF)
Non ambient, time dependent powder diffraction
(University College London)
(Rutherford Appleton Laboratory)
Robert E. Dinnebier
(Excelsus Structural Solutions S.P.R.L.)
(University of Trento)
(MPI, Mülheim an der Ruhr)
Information will be available soon.
The official language of the summer school is English.
Registration and accommodation
Instructions for registration on home page
We have space for about 100 participants at the conference center. Therefore, registration follows the principle "first come, first served". Then we will send you the instructions for payment of the registration (only industry and staff scientists) and accommodation fee.
The accommodation fee will include full board: single room (230 Euro), double room 200 Euro, or triple/quadruple room (180 Euro). It includes accommodation from October 5-8, breakfast, lunch, dinner, coffee breaks for all three days.
Please indicate your preferences for accommodation during registration. Upon registration, you may suggest a room partner if you indicate preference for a double room.
a) Registration fee
Waived for students/post-docs
200 Euro for staff scientists
400 Euro for participants from industry
b) Accomodation fee
To be paid by every participant: 230/200/180 Euro, depending on assigned room category.
Be prepared to transfer both fees soon after registration to guarantee your participation of the summer school.
