"Applications of Terahertz Spectroscopy in Chemistry and Biology"

12.08.2016, 10:00 h, Small Lecture Hall

Abstract:

Many inter-molecular vibrational and rotational bands of molecules leave their imprints in the far-infrared (FIR), more specifically in the 0.1-10 THz (1 THz = 1012 Hz=10-1 ps) spectral region, which lies in between the microwave and infrared, and is otherwise inaccessible by the conventional spectroscopic techniques. Recent advancement in the bench-top THz sources and efficient detectors has increased the application of this spectroscopic technique by leaps and bounds in various research fields including chemistry, biology, condensed matter physics, astrophysics, security, medicine, disease detection etc. In this talk I will briefly discuss a few results obtained in our laboratory.
